June 18, 2026—2026 WRITE ON! Chicago Poetry Contest Online Poetry Reading and Open Mic (Zoom) 7-8 p.m. CST.
Contest winners will read their winning pieces for this Zoom poetry reading, and an open mic will follow. Sponsored by Poets & Patrons.
May 16, 2026—Poetry Reading and Book Signing, Tangible Books (3326 S. Halsted; Chicago, IL 60608), 7-9 p.m.
Have you said to yourself, "I really wish I could see Karen read her poetry at a nice independent bookstore"? "I want to buy her debut poetry collection, Clean Margins, but I would really like her to sign it in person"? Well, now's your chance! On May 16th, from 7-9 p.m., I will be doing a poetry reading and book signing at Tangible Books at 3326 S. Halsted! I hope to see as many of you there as possible...and bring a friend!
April 21, 2026—Write Your Healing Story: A Poetry Workshop: Gilda's Club Chicago (Virtual on Zoom), 6-8 p.m.
April is National Poetry Month, and anyone can participate! Writing poetry is a wonderful form of self-expression and can be an important coping and healing mechanism during one's cancer experience. Poet Karen Steiger, author of her debut collection, Clean Margins, published by Kelsay Books, hopes that you will join us for a two-hour online writing workshop on April 21st from 6-8 p.m. during which we will write our own poetic responses to prompts. There will be an opportunity to share for anyone who chooses to. Perfection is not a requirement, and any feedback will be constructive and respectful. No previous writing experience required...just something to write with and your imagination!
